Thanks for your response.
You're very welcome, indeed.

I, like many others, switched to premiere after Apple decided they were no longer interested in our business and ruined a very good program.
Tell me about it. I worked on two versions of Final Cut Studio as an internal contractor. I was a tech writer for Final Cut Studio 1 for FCP, FC Express, and LiveType. For Final Cut Studio 3, I was an internal contractor beta testing FCP and Motion. I taught FCP for almost a decade and wrote the book, "Motion Graphics and Effects in Final Cut Pro." I started the first FCP User Group, "SF Cutters," and got the "LAFCPUG" up and running. It was a huge part of my livelihood.
Then, I got hired at Adobe around the CS5 era, well before FCP X came out. I've been all Adobe ever since.

I would say again, as you said yourself, that the findings of this discussion should be made clearer to the public.
For sure. I think a blog post might be a good idea and helpful to other users that might not have this knowledge. The blog could be pointed to each time there is a major update too.

I know you're just giving your personal advice here, but from our perspective it's like Adobe's (incessantly) saying "here update, we've fixed everything"
I know. I don't like that either. "LOOK! SHINY NEW TOYS!!" (that's when you have to be most careful!)
I'm the type that ignores the hype train or flashy marketing speak on behalf of my clients and their projects. I'm an editor that is very, very conservative about my practices. You have to keep an eye out for "shiny things" that can stop a project in its tracks. Application updates are one. Another biggie I'm very careful about are OS updates, particularly the OS X updates since OS X 10.9 Mavericks. I'm still happily running OS X 10.8.5 for my own personal MacBook Pro. Finally, be very careful with third party plug-ins as they can be the source of a lot of problems, particularly if you just updated an application or OS.

and when there are problems, we're hearing "yeah... you shouldn't have updated. I thought you knew that." You can see why this thread is getting a bit heated!
Heck yeah, I can see how it could be so confusing to even experienced editors. However, I hope those on this thread can take a more measured approach going forward. Avoid the hype, protect your project files with all that you have, & update projects and OSs judiciously.
Cheers,
Kevin
